Yes that's right....Malted Milk Stout! I had a very similar stout to this at Dry Dock Brewery in Denver Colorado and it is out of this world! They serve theirs on nitro so if you can it is great but it is still a phenomenal beer carbed with co2 in a keg or corn sugar in a bottle. With brown malt, Carafa malt, and two different crystal malts it is a dark heavenly stout. Then add 26 ounces of malted milk at the last 5 minutes of the boil and you will see that this is a creamy, thick, masterpiece!
Both recipes use either Safale 05 or Wyeast 1056 American Ale. Best fermented for 3-5 weeks.
Available in an all grain or extract version, both come in right around 7-8% ABV.
Extract version is made with DME and steeping grains. Steeping grains are packed in a muslin grain bag perfect for steeping. 5.5 gallon recipe.
All grain recipe is based on a 5.5 gallon recipe at 70% efficiency.
Both recipes come with detailed instructions which may or may not need adjusting to you own brewing style. Try this and I think you will love it!
*Note: This recipe does NOT come with the malted milk powder! You will need to source two 13 ounce containers of malted milk powder from your own grocery store. In ours, it is Carnation brand and is with the coffee creamers.
