Nicknamed the Bourbon Capital of the World, the city Bardstown, Kentucky is suitably named for our take on this Kentucky Common beer. Once a very popular style of ale from the area in and around Louisville, Kentucky brewed from the 1850s until Prohibition. Its estimated that 80% of the beer consumed in Louisville was this type - locally known as dark cream common beer or cream beer. It’s brewed with a corn rye blend similar to a bourbon distiller’s mash bill. We added a slight twist of sweetness using a chocolate rye blend. This creamy, dark brew is not as "common" as it once was, but certainly has had its rounds of good cheer more than a century ago! It’s rarely brewed commercially today. Give this one a try - you'll probably only get the opportunity in a craft brewery where brewers love exploring unique and rare styles.
